This sour cream replacement is quick and easy to make if you have the ingredients available. A dollop of this light and fluffy whipped sour cream goes perfectly with tacos and burritos.
It was a Tuesday night, Maryim and I were deciding what we wanted to make for dinner. Then, noticing the day of the week it hit us! Tacos would be perfect. We checked the fridge and assembled all the ingredients, knocked out the taco beef, guacamole, pico de gallo and the tortillas. Everything was pretty much ready to go when Maryim announced ‘we don’t have sour cream’. Being sour cream aficionados we thought the taco Tuesday night may be ruined until I saw we had some cream in the fridge and I thought to myself, we can definitely make something with that. In under 5 minutes we had ready to use sour cream and Taco Tuesday was back on track.
What went into it?
Simply put it is just bitter tasting whipped cream. All I did was whip up some cream added a dash of lemon or lime juice and then for added flavor I chopped up some chives and threw that in too. Then I finished it off with a dash of salt and pepper. Easy peasy!
Sour cream replacement
No it is not sour cream. It is sour tasting whipped cream but honestly it still tasted great on our tacos. Play around with the balance of acidity. Add some more seasonings if you like. Try it out!
We tried it the next morning on our guacamole on toast and it tasted even better the next day, only got better with age. So if you can leave it in the fridge over night I would recommend it before use.
